This song might have gotten some mixed reviews but I finally posted the version I shot this summer for anyone who's interested...

A recent review of TCG calls this song "just weird", which of course made me relisten to it. I see the recurrent theme of GP's commentary about America from a European point of view...We are the Last Bookstore. There is a verse about European writers(Hesse Tolstoy) and then a verse about American writers(Steinbeck, Keroac, Mailer) and concludes...there's nothing here worth reading. That line is contrarian...EVerything worth reading is in the Last Bookstore. America is the Higgly Piggly stew of ideas, built on European concepts but exercising a freedom that is contantly refreshing itself. Once again GP identifies himself with these new ideas and notes that much of the world just wants to tear it down. The voice in the song goes back and forth between the comments about what a mess the bookstore is, and wanting to spead his whole life there...you can learn the moves of chess! It is another Kazoo song which pretty much tells you that something important is happening which must be masked in a "weird" veneer.

I think my friend jerry said it best. As much as I liked the solo versions, now that the album is out, it is a whole different thing. I hate when words are printed. They give a misleading feel of a song

I am believing this to be first tier GP, if not his best.

I've broken one hand, that's alright, I've got two...
