A Howlin' Wind: Pub Rock and the Birth of New Wave by my Nick Lowe pal John Blaney -- it takes up where Will Birch's No Rest Till Canvey Island left off. It's only available in the UK at the moment, but you can order it from Amazon UK (http://www.amazon.co.uk/Howlin-Wind-John-Blaney/dp/0956642047/ref=sr_1_1?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1321146109&sr=1-1). There's a fair amount of coverage of GP's early career, put into the context of what else was happening at the time. An excellent picture of a very complicated few years in the British music scene!
