With all due respect to Soulonice--here's the quintessential version of the Question song:

Love that Dave Alvin tune -- never saw the video before. Thanks!

Isn't there a Bruce Springsteen song about the 4th, from his second album? Here's the video to that: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uEHj8_mzSqk

Hey Holly--glad you enjoyed the Dave Alvin video...ironically I had never seen the Springsteen one.

I really enjoy your blog--had stumbled upon it a few weeks before you discovered--or rediscovered--Parkerville. I now look forward to "hump day"--even refer to it as "Shuffle Day".

But back to Dave Alvin...

About a year ago I saw him live with the Guilty Women and was not disappointed. However, the real payoff came from the opening act "The Eilen Jewell Band".

I enjoyed the first song but was not sure if they were the real deal or if I was just ovecome by front table seats for Dave and/or the joy of seeing live music.

But the next song, and the next song and the etc. were all better than the previous ones. I bought their CD's, saw them live once more and believe they are worthy of more attention.

Plus Eilen (rhymes with feelin) credits the Kinks as an influence!!

The first link is to a cover of the Johnny Kidd and the Pirates' tune "Shaking all Over".

The second link is to "Sea of Tears"...an original composition and as good and catchy as anything I have heard in a while.

...hope you like.
